The first La Primitiva draw took place in Madrid on 10 December 1763 during the reign of King Carlos III. It was originally known as the Lotería por Números and was created to raise state revenue without introducing a new tax.

About La Primitiva
La Primitiva is a Spanish lottery drawn every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Six Winning Numbers are drawn from 1–49, together with one Complementary Number and one Reintegro number from 0–9.
How It Works
Each standard La Primitiva game consists of six numbers selected from 1–49. Six Winning Numbers are drawn, together with one Complementary Number and one Reintegro number. Prizes are awarded according to how many Winning Numbers are matched, with the Complementary Number used for one prize tier. The highest prize category, Especial, requires all six Winning Numbers plus the Reintegro.
Jackpot & Rollover
La Primitiva is a jackpotting lottery. If there is no Especial winner, the top-prize fund rolls over to the following draw and increases the available jackpot. The Especial prize is won by matching all six Winning Numbers plus the Reintegro. The standard first prize is awarded for matching all six Winning Numbers. If there is more than one winning entry in a prize category, the available prize fund for that category is shared between the winning entries.
